Welcome to CRESTS-Liberate!
Community Stakeholder-Scholar (CSS) ModelTM
With the goal of developing more effective researchers, we use the this unique approach to involve community members as active participants in research.
CRESTS-Liberate is an Emancipatory Research credentialing program designed for anyone engaged in research about culturally marginalized communities, whether quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods. Researchers may be formally trained in conventional educational settings or members of grassroots organizations who want to fully participate in the research process. With the goal of developing more effective researchers, we use the Community Stakeholder-Scholar (CSS) ModelTM to involve community members as active participants in research.
The Program
Emancipatory Research addresses the inherent Eurocentrism and bias in conventional research methodologies that lead to inaccurate use and interpretation about non-White client populations that compromises efficacy among researchers.
For beginning researchers, this program introduces bias-free research concepts and procedures to enable participants to begin their journey toward becoming an active participant in research about themselves and their communities.
CRESTS-Liberate aids existing researchers in:
-
de-colonizing their research methods to achieve more truthful findings,
-
minimizing bias in their conceptualizations, and
-
taking action based upon their research findings.
The CRESTS-Liberate curriculum consists of 8-units offered asynchronously on our training platform. The subject matter ranges from a discussion of racism in research about Black individuals, families, and communities as well as other groups of culturally marginalized people.
